Custom Shade Matching at the Lab

Esthetic appearance in dentistry is one of the key aspects of an effective treatment, whether cosmetic or restorative. A natural-looking dental restoration is almost always the desired outcome.

Shade matching is very important and crucial aspect especially when creating anterior dental restorations. For this reason, Impressive Dental Studio is equipped with color-corrective overhead and bench lights throughout our facility. Whenever possible we would like to have patients visit our laboratory for a custom shade matching procedure. During this appointment we will get acquainted with a patient and learn about patient’s preferences and possible feature treatment plans. Patients which are undergoing a teeth whitening treatment must wait for a minimum of 5 days after last treatment before coming for a shade appointment.

We use Kodak camera for dental close-up pictures. During shade appointment we usually take anywhere between 5-6 pictures as well as make graphic notations of discolored areas and map out body, incisal translucencies, mammolons, incisal halo, hypocalcifications, interproximal coloration, occlusal coloration, surface texture, etc.

All images are saved in dentist’s folder for future references.

Furthermore, we use VITA Easyshade® Compact for fast and easy way to measure tooth shades under any lighting condition. We can measure natural teeth, check restoration shades and tack bleaching progress with the push of a button.

The pressure of getting a perfect shade match has never been higher due to patients’ increased attention to esthetic appearance. The VITA Easyshade Compact quickly and precisely measures 16 VITA Classical Shades, 29 VITA System 3D-Master® shades and even those hard-to-see intermediate shades.
